Flat Iron Steak & Asparagus

Flat Iron or Blade Steak ... for $4.05 per lb ...

This post discusses my favorite INEXPENSIVE steak, introducing the…

FLAT IRON STEAK“!!!

As you can see from the picture to the right… I purchased these for $4.05 per lb. I bought 4 packages… all about a pound each.  A pound of very good steak … for less than a double whopper value meal with cheese… nice! :)

Woo hoo! :)

Let’s get right down to business… shall WE?

Steps

1)  Cooking bacon. I recommend cooking this steak and Asparagus in bacon grease or butter. I wanted to cook with bacon … so I started the process in a large skillet.

... ok... this is bacon. :)

2) Cooking Asparagus …  tossed Asparagus on  top of the bacon. Hmmm good!!! :)   I removed the bacon for use in cooking the steaks. As you can see in the bottom of the picture… I had plenty of ‘bacon  juice’ in the skillet. :)

Total cook time for the Asparagus was approximately 20 minutes.

WOW!!! This looked sooo goood!!!!!!!!!! ... and tasted even better.

3) Cooking the Steaks – if you look closely, around the edges of the skillet… you can see bacon! :)
This was the same bacon that I used in cooking the Asapagus.

The Flat Iron Steaks are thinner than typical steaks I cook.  My typical cook time is 10 minutes total for Ribeyes and Strips etc… 7 minutes was plenty for these.

4)  Place on the PLATE and EAT!!!

Like many things… I owe this TOO to Mark Sisson and MarksDailyApple.com, I had never had Flat Iron Steak until I read about it in this post…”How to Cook the Perfect Steak” and began to seek it out.  Like ALMOST everything Mark posts… I agree wholeheartedly with what he wrote.

  1. I had my asparagus RAW! Love the steak, but 4.05 is high for ‘flat iron’. At least here. Great meal plan!
