Day in a Diabetic Thriving Life

2015-03-07 07.34.30This is a pictorial post of a ‘day in a diabetic thriving life’, with brief comments and a summation at the end.

I thrive …every damn day.  I am a formerly obese, formerly drug and insulin dependent diabetic.

Today I am completely drug and insulin free with normal blood sugars for non-diabetics. :)

The picture to the right was my breakfast yesterday, I had 7 soft-boiled, 4-minute eggs and an edible garnish of foraged wild greens.

Blood Sugars

Blood sugars are THE single most important health number for diabetics, IF you eat like me… mainly fatty meats, leafy green vegetables, eggs, coconut oil and butter… click here for my meal plan.

Woke up with a 72 mg/dl  (4 mmol/l).  My preferred range is upper 60’s to low 70’s, that’s my sweet spot.  At that range I am not concerned about going low… nor am I concerned about a small rise in my blood sugar from foods or intense exercise.  Here’s a post on my blood sugar targets and why.

Three hours later and one hour after eating 7 eggs with an edible garnish  …

I read a beautiful 76 mg/dl (4.2 mmol/l).

How many diabetics wake up to a 72 mg/dl drug and insulin free? … not many.

How many diabetics are 76 mg/dl drug and insulin free… one hour post meal? … even less.

The 76 mg/dl was also my pre workout blood sugar reading.  My post INTENSE exercise blood sugar readings were 91 mg/dl and 100 mg/dl  30 minutes and one hour post exercise .

Here’s a picture of my intense eXercise.  I did 100 weighted, elevated kettlebell squats, 100 kettlebell swings and 35 walking lunges in less than 15 minutes. I stand on the tire because it allows me a deeper squat. Also, I practice balance and proper form which must be maintained standing on the tires. :)

I took Arya (my son’s canine companion) for a dog walk and about two hours later I had an 83 mg/dl.

I did not read again until later in the evening, it was my last blood sugar test of the day.  :)

Summary

Blood sugar numbers ARE THE MOST important number for those that eat, play and live like I do.

I truly am thriving. I take no drugs nor insulin. I do supplement vitamin D3 and magnesium several times a week.

Other than that… I eat mainly fatty meats, leafy green vegetables, eggs, coconut oil and butter…
