30 Days of Blood Sugar Testing

For thirty days I tested my overnight fasting blood sugars, this would be a baseline for future experiments. This post is more evidence, low carb paleo is beneficial for diabetics.

  • I love to experiment and having a baseline allows me to compare future experiments.
  • I have future plans, including resistant starch, fastings, highER carb, lowER carb, etc.

 

Typically I only test my blood sugars once every week or two, just to make sure I am ‘on track’, unless I am experimenting.  I am typically well within normal ranges, sub 100 mg/dl. Keep reading if you doubt me. :)

Except on rare occasions when I might have an infection from sickness or a very stressful event …  I am  sub 100 mg/dl.  My overnight fasting blood sugar is typically in the mid 70’s to low 80’s, even when I get sick it is usually in the mid 80’s to 90’s.

 

Low Carb Paleo is Beneficial for Diabetics

I am a formerly obese, formerly drug and insulin diabetic.  I am still a diabetic but I successfully manage my diabetes using a low carb paleo diet and lifestyle. After reading this post, it should be obvious to everyone.

Update: Many in the Medical Industry continue to promote the lie that ‘low carb’ and ‘paleo’ are harmful. You can view my results after eating and living this way for seven plus years, in this post “My Anniversary in Pictures“.  I assure you it is not harmful but beneficial! :)

 

Note:  Before I achieved and maintained non-diabetic normal blood sugars, I tested my blood sugar (blood glucose) levels at minimum 4 times a day.  Many days I tested 8-10 times …

 

Purpose of this Post

  • Provide more evidence to diabetics, so that they can ‘see’ that there is a BETTER WAY!!!

We do not need to ‘carb up and shoot up’.  Hopefully it will motivate diabetics to take control of their blood sugars via diet and exercise … TOO! 

  • To show people … yes I talk the talk, but I also walk the walk. :)

There are many on the internet who ‘talk a good game’ … but do they consistently day in, day out practice what they preach?

As I told someone the other day,  “there are many pretenders on the internet… I’m not one of them.”  :)

Note: Never above 100 mg/dl fasting and only once about 90 mg/dl. I love that.

Clearly low carb paleo is beneficial for diabetics. :)

Update:

Close friends have told me the statement I made  in the “Purpose of this Post”  section above  “might alienate some”.

Here’s why I wrote the phrase

 

“there are many pretenders on the internet… I’m not one of them.”

 

Routinely I hear from people who are still suffering from high blood sugars and almost all of them tell me one of two phrases about their meal plan.

“I eat low carb”   or “I eat primal”  (or ‘I eat paleo’) but  upon further investigation, none of those complaining of high blood sugars … eat or play (exercise) like I do.

 

To sum up my meal plan in a phrase it’s mainly “eating fatty meats, eggs, coconut oil, butter and leafy green veggies” and if I were you… I would too.  Once you normalize blood sugars, then you can add highER carb foods to see how you adjust, if you want to.

Too many diabetics are ‘following’ the advice of pretenders.  If what you are doing is NOT working (sub 100 mg/dl fasting) … why not ‘do as I do’?

Give it a chance, it certainly works for me… and others. :)

Yes it may take time to completely wean off drugs and/or insulin, and some may never wean off completely… but if you do not eat a combined ‘low carb primal’ meal plan then you should start today. :)

  1. Thank you for sharing even with the harassment that you have had. I want to get off all meds. I was able to stay off awhile and just had to get back on. Very discouraging. Your story is inspiring.

    1. You are most welcome. If you have never tried eating just ‘fatty meats’ and leafy green vegetables, that’s what I would do … if I were you. Preferably for a month but for at least a week, then you could add foods back in slowly to see how you react to them.

      If you give it a try, let me know how it goes. :)

  2. I used to have fasting blood glucose of 92 for years and now going Paleo three years I am at 73. I was not diabetic or told I was prediabetic. My cheats are limited to about one per week. I have to avoid nightshades since they bring about pain in a big way.
    I know that the lower the carbs the better I feel from Fibromyalgia. When I read about diabetics it sounds like they have Fibromyalgia. I wonder if Fibromyalgia patients are really prediabetics. My husband also went Paleo and he was luckier, his fasting blood glucose is at 60 and he cheats more than I do : (
    I also find eating two meals a day one in the morning and one at night also improves pain. So last night I conducted an experiment. I had husband bring home two frosties from Wendy’s (gluten free, milk and sugar and no grains) before we ate anything else. He had lunch too and I didn’t. Then an hour after the frosties I took our glucose reading. Mind you he is 6′ 4″ and 260lbs I am 5’5″ 225lbs.
    His blood glucose was 123 where as mine was 166! When I googled about this I think I am prediabetic. What numbers do you follow since there are so many interpretations out there? Should I consider myself prediabetic? Is my husband prediabetic?
    This morning the first thing I did before eating or drinking was check my blood glucose and I was at 95. I just think I am a diabetic just hovering under the radar.

    1. Thanks for the comment. According to what I’ve read … your overnight fasting blood sugars are not diabetic, nor pre-diabetic.

      The ice cream test would appear to show insulin resistance… in my humble non medical opinion, depending on how much sugar you had.

      It’s possible that if you ate the SAD (Standard American Diet) that you would test positive for Diabetes.

      Re: Fibro and diabetes? … that’s certainly possible. I know very little about Fibro except the symptoms. I was never in much pain from diabetes (some neuropathy) but all of my symptoms have been erased. I did suffer from extreme lethargy.
